Committee Descriptions

1. Art Fundraiser — Work with the Art teacher to organize a sale of student’s art benefiting the Kolter art program.

2. Book Fair — Work with the Librarian to organize a sale with profits benefiting the Kolter library.  Volunteers needed during Pizza Night and Tues – Fri between 8:00-3:00 to assist students and parents with book selections and payment (run cash register).

3. Book Fair Pizza Night — Pizza Night is usually held the first night of Book Fair. Volunteers needed to help with set up, clean up, selling tickets, and serving pizza and drinks.

4. Class Field Trips — Each grade takes field trips throughout the year and parent chaperones are needed.

5. Class Party — There are 2 class parties: the last day before winter break and the last day of school. Volunteers will be needed to help with the party.

6. Community Recognition Committee (CRC) — Covers school events during the year to increase community recognition for Kolter. CRC needs writers and photographers – amateurs welcome, no experience needed.

7. Cultural Arts— Work with the Principal and/or Magnet Coordinator to study, preview, and reserve dates for programs at the school such as International Night and other cultural programs that are funded by the Kolter PTO.

8. Directory — Produce student directory at lowest cost possible and distribute early in the year.

9. Directory Ad — Sell advertising in the student directory to defray some of that cost.

10. Fall Fundraiser Committee — Responsible for organizing and overseeing one school-wide fall fundraiser that is usually the sale of wrapping paper and chocolates. Volunteers needed to process orders and delivers orders to classrooms.

11. Field Day — Students participate in outdoor games and activities. Work with the P.E. teacher to organize and plan games and activities.  Volunteers needed to help organize activities and children during these events.

12. Fifth Grade Party & Graduation — Work with 5th grade teachers to organize and oversee festivities for graduating 5th graders. Volunteers needed to help with decorations, refreshments and reservations.

13. Finance — Assist Treasurer with duties to ensure that receipts are collected and recorded accurately and that PTO revenues and expenses are accurately presented in the financial statements. Duties will primarily include assisting event chairs with checking in fundraising receipts and preparing receipts for deposit.

14. Grade Level Coordinators — One representative from each grade level, K-5 who acts a liaison between any of the Standing Committees and the room parents for each class in their grade. Each Grade Level Coordinator is a voting member of the Board.

15. Grandparents Day — Grandparents or special friends are invited to have lunch with their child during the week of Book Fair. Volunteers will set up and provide refreshments.  Activities may include some form of community drive (such as food or clothing drive).

16. Ice Cream Social — Social held during school orientation, which is usually the Friday before school starts. Volunteers needed to serve ice cream and direct students and parents to classrooms.

17. Incentives Box Tops — Collect and sort box tops throughout the year and send to company for rebate.

18. Incentives Labels and Other — Organize, promote food labels and store incentives that offer schools a percentage of purchases. Volunteers needed to collect labels and track store incentives.

19. International Night — Largest Cultural Arts program . Cultures from around the world are represented by Kolter families. Volunteers needed to bring or serve food, set up tables, solicit donations from local businesses for door prizes; help organize children for parade; handle tickets for raffle.

20. Kindergarten Roundup and New Student Orientation — Soon-to-be Kindergartners and families visit Kolter.  Volunteers needed to serve refreshments, organize activities and provide information.

21. Library Liaison — Assist the Librarian with clerical duties and Accelerated Reader, as well as providing special story times, displays, bulletin boards, or help with other programs. This committee will also solicit and maintain record for book dedication and write thank you notes as required for book donations.

22. Magnet Awareness — Prospective students and their families visit the Kolter campus.  Work with the Magnet office and Coordinator to plan and implement tours during Magnet Awareness Week and recruit and train volunteers to assist with tours. Volunteers needed to give tours, answer questions, hand out information, and set up and serve refreshments.

23. Outdoor Class Liaisons — Kolter has a wonderful outdoor space that includes a pond, several themed gardens and a courtyard. Volunteers needed to help teachers with educational activities and to keep these outdoor areas beautiful.

24. Parent Patrol — Parents are needed at both the Kindergarten gate and the front of the school to assist in the carpool line by opening doors and helping students get out of the car quickly and safely. Each class is assigned a week at a time and parent volunteers are needed from 7:30 – 8:00. Click here for the schedule of dates for each class.

25. Prepackaged School Supplies — Survey the teachers regarding their needs for school supplies for the following year, secure bids on supplies, pre-order prepackaged school supplies and organize volunteers to distribute the supplies the following year. Purchase and maintain an inventory of Kolter logo clothing.  Prepackaged school supplies are sold at the end of the school year and delivered to each student at the beginning of school. Volunteers needed to distribute supplies to classrooms at beginning of school year.

26. PTO Membership — Organize, coordinate, recruit, and publicize membership, including maintaining all records of membership.

27. Room Parent — Each classroom has one or more parent whose primary role is to support and assist the teacher. The Room Parent helps coordinate parent volunteers to help with field trips, class parties and other needs of teacher or school events.

28. School Store — Purchase and maintain inventory of school supplies and keep record of expenses and income. Volunteers needed to help in the store.

29. Spring Fundraiser Committee — Responsible for organizing and overseeing one school-wide spring fundraiser that is usually, but not limited to, a Carnival or Auction. This is usually the largest fundraiser.

30. Teacher Appreciation Coordinator — Each grade level provides the teachers with a breakfast or lunch during the year. Responsible for coordinating with grade level coordinators for all teacher appreciation events. Volunteers needed to help with set up and clean up and to purchase food and drinks.

31. Technology— Assist with PTO technical needs as well as work with the technology teacher as necessary.

32. Webmaster — Manages Kolter PTO website.

33. Yearbook— Organize and publish the annual yearbook, research publishing companies, acquire bids. Volunteers needed in May to collect and count orders, deliver yearbooks, sell yearbooks after school.
